App Tinkering

Been quite interesting figuring out how to bring this together.

I’ve been reading Invent To Learn:Making Tinkering and Engineering in the Classroom. I have always liked playing around with different things and one place I’ve been “tinkering” around the past little while is looking at how different apps can come together to create content. In the video below I used a variety of apps.

I liked the meme characters found in Grafio. I wanted to create a no rage, no worry, be happy video using these characters. When I exported the images from Grafio to VideoScribe the size was a  was a bit large as Grafio exported the whole screen even though the face only took up a part of the image. So I opened the image in PS Touch to crop the extra space.

Next I created a series of animated movies using VideoScribe. I had a lot of issues with VideoScribe including the inability to save locally, inability to save to the cloud and crashes. So I deinstalled the app and after reinstalling it the issues went away (I still am having trouble with the morphing between images).

With all of this in my camera roll I started putting together a video. I started with Pinnacle Studio but every time I went to export the final video to Camera Roll or Youtube I would get an error (it seems like one file caused the problem). So I moved over to the new version of iMovie. I added the videos to a project timeline and started editing the sequence.

Last step was music.

I wanted to download copyright friendly music from CCMixter or Soundcloud edit it, then send it to my video project. I tried, chrome, iCab but was unable to find anything I could download the sound files with. Finally I tried Documents. Using Documents’ web browser I went to the Soundcloud page and tapped the download button. This let me download the music to my iPad and share it to other apps. Unfortunately I could not send it directly to iMovie (this changed with an update earlier this week). As I wanted to edit the file anyway I opened it with Hokusai where I cut out portions and sent the parts I wanted to iMovie.

From iMovie off to Youtube and here below!

Probably an easier way and I think this process needs to be easier!

A few things to look at after all of this:

  • pinnacle studio problems (what was the issue with the one file)
  • issues I had with morphing in VideoScribe (worked around that)
  • complete the rest of the video
