Backing up Courses

We were taught how to back up our courses yesterday. Having worked with Moodle for a few years it is something I do regularly. As we are moving to a new Moodle version I also took the time to update my old local installation. So I downloaded and installed a MAMP 2.7 version. Then I restored my courses from the school site to this local installation. Figured out the issue with the uploads bigger than 32 M that gave me a “A required parameter (sesskey) was missing” error. A Google search then playing with the php.ini file helped me with that one (if you are wondering).

I haven’t played with Moodle for quite a while so I tried a few things out on 2.7. I see that the “plugins” offerings are slim but that doesn’t matter our

installation is pretty static. I couldn’t find some of the modifications mentioned but maybe we have an in-house modification of a course format in the works. Went and took a look MoodleCommons to see what courses were there and downloaded one and then another from Moodlenet. When you see these possibilities a meeting comment I made a few days ago might make more sense.

Makes sense to model and show through an actual Moodle course what we will be accountable for. In any event although it was initially laughed at maybe this will happen next semester. Probably makes some sense to use the course as a training ground as well. I thought it worked well when I did that many years ago. Considering the number of times we revisit layout standardization (third time in the six years I have worked here) it’s probably a good thing to have something in place that shows where we are and what we are doing. Maybe this year with a real administrator in the building things might continue for more than a few weeks.
