But it is an important part of the type of work I do. Those two comment feed methods I gave you work really well and the beauty of it is the coding has all been done for you. I ended up using Feedwordpress, and a tag based blog post with cets_EmbedRSS to pull the students comments into the post. Those widgets look like what I was talking about though. Thanks Sue,

Getting the students participating more fully with commenting is a challenging process and it will take time.

Regarding subscribing to student comments you could try either Recent Global Comments Feed or Recent Global Comments Widget on your WordPress MU install.
